初参り（はつまいり）とは、赤ちゃんが無事に生誕1か月目を迎えたことを神仏に感謝して報告する行事で、百日参り（ももかまいり）とは無事に生誕100日目を迎えたことを神仏に感謝して報告する行事です。日本には赤ちゃんの誕生と健やかな成長を願って、生誕約１か月目または100日目に、両親が付き添って寺社にお参りをする風習で、初着（うぶぎ）、産着（うぶぎ）、祝着（のしめ）などと呼ばれる晴れ着を被せて、将来を祝福されるために神仏に参詣します。
Hatsu-mairi refers to the custom of visiting a shrine or temple to give thanks for the safe birth of a baby when the baby reaches one month. Momoka-mairi refers to the visit when the baby reaches 100 days to give thanks for the child’s well-being. In Japan, it is customary for parents to take their baby to a temple or shrine one month or 100 days after the baby’s birth to pray for the child’s healthy growth. The child is often dressed in special ceremonial clothes for the visit.
